Nearly halfway through 2017… eeek! How did that happen! I thought I’d take a look at the current trends influencing website design so far this year. Trends can inspire your website design and keep your website up-to-date and relevant in the online world. Although following trends can be great, it’s important to keep in mind that your website design should always be tailored to your target audience. Here’s a look at my top 5 website design trends so far for 2017:
A duotone is a half-tone image which primarily uses two different colours. The duotone trend is influencing website design with duotones not only being used on images & videos but also on the website’s colour scheme where two colours dominate the design. Here are some great examples of use of duotones used on websites:
2. Big Bold Typography
This trend is one that continues on from last year with loads of websites using big bold typography to make clear, concise and powerful statements on their home pages. Here’s some examples of some great uses of typography:
The use of videos in websites are increasing in popularity this year with videos not only been used on content but also as large backgrounds. 4. Letting Content Shine
Over the past couple of years the minimalist trend has been as huge influence on website design. Content can often be a casualty of minimalist design. With SEO and Google rankings playing a more important role in the mind of designers, there is a trend back to letting content be the driver of design.
5. The Rise and Rise of Great Mobile & Responsive Design
This trend has been continuing on this year with many designers designing mobile websites first. With most websites experiencing an increase in mobile traffic and with Google announcing they will be preferencing mobile friendly websites in their rankings, these factors continue to push the importance of responsive design in websites. A great example of responsive design is the new web-based game by Google, Interland which is designed to teach kids the fundamentals of internet safety.
So there we have it, there’s my top 5 website design trends for this year. It was hard to keep it to only five as there has been so many fresh, new designs in the world of websites.
