Today we launch into cyberspace the new and improved www.footballgeek.com.au. Football Geek has been around for 6 years and was in a desperate need of a makeover. The website is primarily a news aggregator which publishes football (soccer) news feeds from Australia. Whilst the website was quite successful several years ago it has slipped in recent years and it was time for a major revamp.
The brief
To produce a modern, easy to maintain website that would appeal to football fans. A website where you can easily read all of the football news that is happening right now. A place where you can see clips of goals and highlights etc.. One of the most important needs was that it be easily adaptable. The new A-League season was just beginning and the site needed to be able to change throughout the season and have the ability to experiment with different ideas. It also needed a dedicated W-League news page, a place dedicated to reading about the awesome women of the league.
Where to start?
First step, CMS (content management system). Originally Football Geek used Drupal which was fantastic and at the time the website allowed for user logins, commenting and voting on news stories. The new website did not want to use these features again so we felt WordPress might be a better fit.
What we did
We started from scratch. We redesigned the logo. We designed each news feed to display additional information, like author, brief excerpt and images. We embeded YouTube clips and a put in up-to-date A-League and W-League leaderboards.
Finished product
We created a cool, modern website that is focused on football news stories that can be easily maintained and modified. Throughout the next couple of months we are planning on adding some new additional features to the website. So stay tuned!
We are super proud of this project. Check out our awesome work at www.footballgeek.com.au
Have a great day! Thanks for reading
